Wrestling With God

Justice, Suffering, & Growing In Faith: The Book Of Job

When have you thought your efforts were pointless?

Apr 12th - Will We Still Worship?

Apr 19th - Is God Just?

Apr 26th - Is There Justice In This World?

May 3rd - How Do We Understand Suffering?

May 10th - How Do We Grow From Suffering?

Proverbs 15:6

The house of the righteous contains great treasure,   but the income of the wicked brings ruin.

Humans cry out to God for justice.

Job 21:29-33

29 Have you never questioned those who travel?    Have you paid no regard to their accounts—30 that the wicked are spared from the day of calamity,    that they are delivered from the day of wrath?31 Who denounces their conduct to their face?    Who repays them for what they have done?32 They are carried to the grave,    and watch is kept over their tombs.33 The soil in the valley is sweet to them;    everyone follows after them,    and a countless throng goes before them.

Our struggle: How can God be just when we see the wicked prosper?

Job 40:8-14
8 “Would you discredit my justice?
Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
9 Do you have an arm like God’s,
and can your voice thunder like his?
10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,
and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.
11 Unleash the fury of your wrath,
look at all who are proud and bring them low,
12 look at all who are proud and humble them,
crush the wicked where they stand.
13 Bury them all in the dust together;
shroud their faces in the grave.
14 Then I myself will admit to you
that your own right hand can save you.

Even when we do not see the results of justice, we are called to trust God in it.

And even when we do not see the results of justice, we are still called to live it.

Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Community Prayer

Immigrant Care

  • For immigrants navigating the government systems and fearing excessive enforcement
  • For families and spouses seeking to be reunited
  • That governmental agencies would act lawfully and with compassion
  • That volunteers and community leaders would grow in partnership and find support for themselves in work that can be tiring
